Crossover adventure writing - Factions and NPCs
This is my second entry on the adventure I am preparing for the crossover jam. Writing these posts is helping me so I will keep doing it until I finish the PDF.
Ramnjam
The great wizard Ramnjam is a wizard specialized in illusionism and trickery. Ramnjam is a giant snail that can polymorph into a humanoid form. They are captive at Carmelo's Farm.
- Likes: Learning about old rituals, being able to grab things with hands, gesturing.
- Hates: Being treated as a lesser being, chickens.
Disciples of Ramnjam
A bunch of magic students that follow the great mage Ramnjam. Not a lot is really known about them other than being socially awkward and gesturing too much while talking. They know a little bit about illusion magic and transmutation.
Actually, all of them are frog-like humanoids, smaller than a human that usually polymorph themselves to look like humans, elves or dwarves.
- Gegagd: Superior Froggard student of Ramnjam. Can Polymorph their friends into humans and knows one or two additional illusion spells.
- Likes: Helping friends, Food.
- Hates: Being called "Frog".
Carmelo's Farm
The Carmelo Brothers found the monster inside the cave and took an orb they found. In return, the monster awakened and took their father from them. Now, one of them is mutating due to the orb (an egg from the ancient monstrosity).
Jonas Carmelo
Runs the farm and tainted by the echoes of the mother can't help but make whiskey with the corn. At the same time is scheming, trying to get rid of its reach somehow. He is prepared for when the mayor comes for him.
- Likes: Violence, knowing things, not controlling himself.
- Hates: Not controlling himself.
Kind Carmelo
Mutated into a huge monster with overgrown meat and muscle, tries to keep his brother safe. He feels the mother and fights against the urge of killing people. His body has assimilated the orb in its shoulder with his life and will attack anyone who tries to steal it. If the orb is destroyed there is a 3-in-6 of dying and a 3-in-6 chance of returning to its human form in 1d4 days.
- Likes: killing cows when anxious, his farm.
- Hates: intruders, townspeople.
Miriciri Farm
Miri and Ciri are a couple of mercenaries who got tired of their former life and bought some farmland. They are far away from the creek and town, so the infection has not reached them yet. They are happy to receive travelers and have space in their barn for them to stay.
Miri, the warrior.
Warrior Lvl 2. Tall, short hair. She always keeps a dagger close.
- Likes: Ciri, playing with animals.
- Hates: intruders, arrogant nobles.
Ciri, the priestess.
Cleric Lvl 2. Short, long hair. Silver star pendant.
- Likes: Miri, singing to animals.
- Hates: heretics, shady behavior.
The Town
The majority of the people of the town are infected and will show visible signs of it like pustules or filth.
The corrupted mayor
Since he was gravely infected, the mayor of the town is the head of the cult of the mother, although he does not show any physical signs of it. He organizes masses at the church and carries out the sacrifices for the monster at the cave. He wants to recover the orb from the Carmelo's brothers, kept by Jonas Carmelo.
- Likes: To praise the mother, "converting" new cult members.
- Hates: Being interrupted, Carmelo's.
The fisherman
A simple fisherman who lives near town and provides the region with some fresh fish. He does not know anything about the main events but does know that the Carmelo's whiskey is really bad. He tried it and got the worst hangover ever.
Also, he is wary of the people in town as "they look like a bunch of weirdos nowadays". He avoids town if possible.
- Likes: Fishing and gossiping
- Hates: Carmelo's whiskey, that damned mayor.
Additional Notes
It may be useful, and interesting, to have some interaction between these factions and NPC in the form of "quests". However, it is clear, in the presentation of the adventure, that the baddies are the cult people from town (and the Carmelo's). Also, treasure is something to consider, but that will be written with the locations.
