A solo-hexcrawl procedure and result

I shared with my bsky account the map I created for a solo play I am planning to do.

I did a small playtest using a combination of rules I have seen for navigating (and creating!) the locations. I am merging Mythic Bastionland overland travel together with Wolves upon the coast hexfill procedures to create the specifics of the map: wildernes landmarks, lairs of creatures and settlements. Of course, throw those spark tables in the mix, baby!

For events in my journey, I use the Myths but also Mythic GME. It seemed to work quite well with this small playtest. The main idea is to write a hexcrawl setting in the style of Wolves Upon The Coast that works as a (combination of) realms of Mythic Bastionland.

I am planning to set up an itch page for this hexcrawl and update it on the go, but for no we can take it easy: here is the writing from today's small session with the in-game Journal and Hexfilling results.

Journal

Developement date: Day 1 - 31st of July 2025

I arrived near the peninsula. My first stop was a large pond. I’m fairly sure I’m close to the lands of the Al-Balansi, though not quite there yet.

The pond - Hex 17.00

A couple and their young son were there, the parents trying with great fervor to teach him the art of painting. He did a good job, the resulting painting captured the vivid colors of the pond and the eerieness of it.

They mentioned that the pond was dangerous, and that many people had ended up at its bottom due to the weird algae growing there. That explained why they were keeping their distance to it.

Al-Balansi Lands - Hex 17.01

I found a strange pit with golden minerals shining in it. I did not trust the place, neither the glittering stones. They seduced the greed in me but the walls were full of strange golden leeches… In any case, the sun sets, and I must rest. The journey will continue tomorrow.

A big and verdant pond whose water is always rippling.

[Rumours] say that a devil dwells in it, as people go missing around this place.

Swimming in it is harder [disadvantage] than usual. Carnivorous algae reside in the pond, waiting for their prey.

A small pit, adorned with golden glowing metal, home of multitude of golden looking leeches

[Rumour 1] - The minerals there are not gold, but pyrite instead.

[Rumour 2] - The golden leeches actually work as a remedy that heals by scarring.
